Abstract
The Virtual reality is currently a field in full growth. One of the research areas is about immersion and the presence sensation. To increase immersion, researchers have focused their interest in sensory feedbacks like sound, haptic or tactile. Few researches have been carried out on olfactory feedback. This work is about the integration of olfactory feedback in virtual environment. First time, some experiments have been performed in order to create a methodology to characterize the olfactory displays. Results showed that subjectivity of subjects involves the need to calibrate olfactory displays before their use in virtual reality application. This document presents a taxonomy of olfactory display's choice according to different parameters like interaction's techniques defined by D.A. Bowman et al. or visualization interfaces. This work did also a first evaluation of olfactory feedback on two points : the sensation of presence and the memorization of objects or events
